Although their relationship has barely begun, Ellen and Portia as so committed they're going to adopt a little boy in the New Year, says pals.
Ellen's been in love with other women in her life - including her newly joilted ex Alexandra Hedison and former flame Anne Heche - but none has meant as much as Portia, said the insider.
Soul Mate
"Ellen has always been very closed-lipped about past relationships, but she keeps gushing about how she's finailly found a soul mate. And Portia feels the same way."
The chirpy talk show host traveled a bumpy road to find true love. As we revealed last week, photographer-actress Alexandra talked to lawyers about hitting Ellen with a "galimony" suit based on their four years together.
And to settle down with Ellen, "Arrested Development" star Portia ended her own relationship of three years with girlfriend Francesca Gregorini - Ringo Starr's stepdaughter.
"Both Ellen and Portia are sorry they had to break the hearts of their longtime line-in girlfriends for the sake of their romance," disclosed the insider. "Now they want to seal their bond by adopting a baby boy. They're planning to begin adoption proceedings soon."
While they both love children, neither 47-year-old Ellen or Portia, 31, seem to want to carry a child. "Portia's made a career out of being a sex symbol and feels becoming pregnant would affect her career and look," confided the insider. "And Ellen has never even considered bearing a child."
"When Ellen was with Alexandra Hedison, Alexandra was going to become pregnant by invitro fertilization - but Ellen's not even considering that situation for Portia, who has her own demanding career."
Loves Children
Shortly before hooking up with Portia, Ellen publicly revealed her deep feelings toward children. "I love babies," she said. "I love children and I melt when I'm around them."
Explained the insider, "Ellen has always loved her friends' children - Melissa Etheridge's kids and Sara Gilbert's newborn."
However, asked about motherhood, a reluctant Ellen said, "I'm married to my job." But the insider notes: "That's all changed with Portia."
"Right now, Portia is getting settled at Ellen's four-home compound in the Hollywood Hills." "Portia moved in quicker than originally planned because her ex, Francesca, threw her out of their home the day Portia broke the news about Ellen. Ellen is thrilled things have moved fast with Portia. Their plans are to redecorate so that the home reflects Portia's personality as much as it does Ellen's. Then in the spring, Ellen and Portia are set to start adoption proceedings - and hope to have a baby boy by the end of '05!"
Shocking Changes
The shocking changes in her love life come at a time when Ellen's career is making a resurgence. After losing her own sitcom, she's back on top with a hit, Emmy-winning talk show. She's also been successful in helping raise more than a half-million dollars for one of her favorite charities, America's Second Harvest - The Nation's Food Bank Network.
"Ellen has done a great job of entertaining people while helping society," said the insider. "With Portia, she finally feels she has it all. Portia is a knockout, life-of-the-party person. Ellen feels she's found someone as funny and upbeat as she is. And a baby would make everything perfect."
Ellen's publicist denied that Ellen and Portia have any baby plans.
